York County Airport, South Carolina

Todd Low’s real job is a wholesale and liquidation reseller. He took over the business his father started and continues to run it successfully today. An avid aviator, Todd witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Hugo 10 years ago and its impact on the local airport and aircraft. Fifty-five planes were totaled on the field. The local airport didn’t have the funds to rebuild after the storm, and the temporary hangars were less than adequate. Low made it his quest to construct new, more durable hangars for his and other aircraft.

Partnering with Rock Hill radio station owner, Manning Kimmel, Todd began to explore products and found Erect-A-Tube to offer the finest product and service all the way around. He reports, “For what you receive with Erect-A-Tube, they are priced very competitively.”

Manning Kimmel never thought his radio business would lead him to investing in Erect-A-Tube hangars for the local airport. “I called on Todd Low to sell him advertising on our radio station,” Kimmel explains.

“Low was a businessman and pilot with his own plane. Aviation had always been an interest of mine. Todd and I talked about flying often, and after being appointed a local airport commissioner (a role that has lasted eight years), I decided to learn to fly. I bought an airplane and since then have joined in a partnership with Todd on six hangars from Erect-A-Tube.

“I have to say, we have generally been satisfied with the good quality of the Erect-A-Tube product,” explained Kimmel. “It has been a good investment for us. The contractors report they are easy to construct, the pieces fit, and there are no surprises.”

“Erect-A-Tube is the Cadillac when it comes to this type of building. I expect these hangars to last 50 to 75 years. Erect-A-Tube doesn’t cut corners and materials are excellent. We use the electronic bi-fold doors, which cost a little more money, but in the long haul, they are cheaper and better because they last!” notes Todd.

“The doors are what really make the hangar better and Erect-A-Tube has the best doors, the most variety and the highest overall quality.” Todd reports. “On any construction job there are snags and delays, but none with Erect-A-Tube! The erectors say they are the easiest to construct, engineered correctly, and they don’t have to re-manufacture them.

“A large shipment may be short a piece. Erect-A-Tube will have it to us in a day or two after we call. The drawings guide the erectors without difficulty. Lead times are no problem. Erect-A-Tube tells us a delivery date and we can count on it. Buildings have gotten here before we needed them in some cases.”

When a problem occurred for the partners, Erect-A-Tube customer service acted quickly to correct it. Kimmel recounts, “At one time we had a motor that went bad. No questions were asked when we called Erect-A-Tube for a replacement motor. Their response was quick, efficient, and very satisfactory.

According to Todd Low, the operative word for Erect-A-Tube products and service is “Excellent!”
